Like most people in this field, my first encounter with generative AI was not frustration. It was awe mixed with genuine fear. Then I started using the tools for real work, and something clarifying happened: AI is very good at producing training-shaped things. What it cannot do is determine whether training is the right answer, design for the real world rather than the ideal one, or advocate for the discipline inside organizations that don't fully understand what we do. That gap is why practitioners need to be louder right now.

Most organizations are very good at managing crises. They mobilize quickly, deploy resources, resolve the immediate problem, and recognize the team for handling it well. What most organizations never do is stop and ask why the crisis happened in the first place. That question is deceptively simple but regularly unasked, and it is the difference between an organization that survives its emergencies and one that stops having so many of them.
